Undocumented features often pop up in popular games, enabling some players to get an unexpected advantage. Destiny 2 also has such a glitch, it turns out, and it’s been around for some time. Until one player revealed the secret of Min/max, the glitch that filled the players’ pockets, and now there is a scandal going on.

The min/max glitch was a very pleasant surprise for those who discovered it. With it, a player could get infinite orbs and amplify damage dealt with the enemies. It’s very simple to do: one only needs to play Destiny 2 on PC in windowed mode and hold the “Minimize” button for a few seconds. Or rather needed to: Bungie now has developed some countermeasures, so players trying to apply this trick simply get disconnected. And probably soon banned too.

It could have gone unnoticed for months (like it actually did, as the glitch was discovered at least in May). But a player named JB3 made a video in October where they revealed the secret of the bug. When the video was uploaded, it caused an explosion in the community.

If we believe JB3, they contacted Bungie in July 2021 and told about that glitch, but no official reaction followed. The bug was not fixed; it wasn’t even addressed in blog posts or statements. Then the author decided it’s time for it to hit the fan. Another player, @ghoustmiller, though, tells a different version of events. According to ghoustmiller, JB3 was a member of a players’ group who revealed the group’s secret after being banned by Bungie for using this very bug (which means the publisher had known about it and reacted).

No matter what really happened. Now the bug is well-known, and that makes it unusable. Players trying to exploit Min/max now should be prepared for an instant ban. As for JB3, no reaction followed the scandalous video, and if there are any other bugs like this, they remain hidden.
