YouTube Music was initially a sort of “YouTube without a video”, but with a big number of small changes, Google is doing its thing. Now it makes a new interface for adding tracks to playlists. Sensationally, it’s even better than those of Spotify, Apple Music, and other recognized giants of the streaming industry.

The most obvious way to organize adding tracks is just offering the list of all the available playlists, in alphabetical or chronological order. But it’s too mechanical, and, in addition, looks too plain. That can’t be said about the new interface that makes forming playlists simply fun.

The update adds a carousel at the top of the page. This carousel features your recent playlists, so by scrolling it you can choose which playlist to add a certain track to. Each playlist in the carousel shows the covers of the tracks it contains, so you can recognize them at a glance. The similar artwork now crowns the “Mixed for You” playlists that YouTube Music generates for users regarding their preferences.

The good old list, of course, is still there, under the carousel. As for creating new playlists, now it’s done by a floating action button. With it, you can easily add a track to the playlists if you haven’t created one for it yet. Set the picture, give it a name, and see it in the carousel, so similar tracks are easy to add.

Who can enjoy this update now? So far, just a small group of users selected for testing the innovation in real life. These few are chosen randomly, and their feedback becomes the basis for further developments or even bug fixing. This strategy can be what led YouTube Music to become the fastest-growing music streaming service in 2021.

Are you on YouTube Music already? If you are among the lucky few, how does the new interface feel? Does it work as supposed, or are there any bugs? Share your feedback here, in our comments!
