Two League of Legends Spinoffs Delayed
2023-01-12
If you’re a League of Legends fan, you may have been looking forward to the two announced spinoffs since the day they were announced. This wait may take longer than you expect, though. According to the statement by Riot Games, both Song of Nunu and Convergence will be delayed at least until 2023, as well as the updated Ruined King.
In case you haven’t heard about these games, let’s start with their setting, that of the basic League of Legends game. The genre, though, will be different in both cases. Convergence (styled as Conv/rgence) is a 2D action platformer, not the genre you might expect from LoL. Still, Ekko fans will enjoy seeing their favorite tech-savvy Champion in a completely new environment, with new mechanics and new types of adventures. Like all platformers, it feels a bit 1990s, but that’s what to love.
As for Song of Nunu, it’s a single-player adventure, a story of a little boy searching for his mother amidst the war. The boy has a big bear-like yeti friend, a certain father figure, and the ability to change the world with his flute by playing magic tunes. The duo of Nunu and Willump is well familiar to LoL players; now this champion has a great backstory. Poetic and spectacular, this game has been anticipated since the moment of its announcement; now, well, we’ll have to wait a little longer.
These games are to be released by Riot Forge, a sublabel that collaborates with third-party studios to create spinoffs to League of Legends or maybe standalone games. Both Song of Nunu and Conv/rgence are released by Riot Forge, the former being developed by Tequila Works and the latter by Double Stallion Games. Ruined King, a game previously released by Forge, will also receive an update in 2023, unfolding its visual potential on next-gen consoles.
