Sims 5 Playtest Was Hacked and Pirated
2023-01-12
The development of The Sims 5, now known as "Project Rene," has moved into playtesting. Even though the new phase only started at the end of October and is still far from the end of the work, users managed to hack this version and pirate it.
According to the Insider Gaming report, the game's build provided to test participants has been hacked. An anonymous source said that it was done using special tokens that each tester received before starting work. The hackers managed to generate such electronic keys with the Denuvo tool and use them to gain access to the current game version. The technology used allowed them to create an unlimited number of tokens. Besides, it turned out that the access did not require the approval of the moderators/developers, and users did not need to fill out any forms.
Moreover, the hackers managed to play The Sims 5, and they said that it was done on the Peer 2 Peer servers, that is, without connection to the EA infrastructure. This build was not encrypted or equipped with security tools (because it was the early one), making hacking an easy task. It is known that the developers used Unreal Engine 5, but it is possible that after this unpleasant situation, the final version will look different.
By the way, the question remains whether the hackers will share the generated tokens with a wide audience or show an early build that fell into their hands. In any case, the company is now dealing with this leak, and there is no information regarding the release date of the new Sims part yet. Since the developers have announced a rethinking of the familiar gameplay, they obviously have to do a lot of work. Fortunately, judging by the discussions on Discord, the feedback on the early build is only positive.
How do you feel about The Sims 5 hacking? Would you like to get access to a sneak peek? Or will you honestly wait for the official release of the game
