GTA Trilogy premiered this week. Together with new visuals and physics, players also got a much bigger game size. Is the online mode added along with other novelty components?

Quick answer: no. None from the legendary trifecta will have an online/multiplayer mode. At least not an official one.

As you remember, by the end of the 2000s, GTA SA-MP, which stands for San Andreas Multiplayer, was hugely popular among players internationally. Being a homemade mode, it gathered a myriad of independent servers, with each having up to 1,000 players. People could join them to begin a new life in the highly criminalized state of SA.

Among regular activities, SA-MP offered turf wars, street racing, kung-fu matches, collective flash mobs, and so on. You could even join the police and be a cop. Sadly, the highly engaging SA-MP experience wasn’t adopted. Rockstar also missed a rich opportunity to add 2-people multiplayer to beat the classic missions collectively.

For instance, the treacherous Lans from Vice City could easily be player two. And the outcome of the final mission could be a grandiose battle between you and your friend for the right to take over the drug mansion. All we get from the Trilogy is the tweaked lighting, hi-res textures, more believable physics, and also GTA V weapon mechanics.

At the same time, Trilogy has already become a mockery target among online commentators. For instance, they anti-praise the “improved” visuals, which make some iconic characters barely recognizable. CJ’s girlfriend Denise Robinson was one of the targets, as her reworked face has little to do with the original Denise, now emanating a “creepy vibe”, according to the commentaries.

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition is already available for $60 on almost all platforms, including Nintendo Switch. Do you like these remastered classics? Let us know in the comments!
