SharePlay is a new FaceTime’s feature, which allows you to watch flicks together with someone or share your screen while using third-party software.

SharePlay is available for devices powered by the latest versions of iOS and macOS. This neat feature gives you a whole array of benefits.

For instance, you can share your beloved Netflix series with someone, who’s currently at a distance from you. No more glitchy workarounds or non-functioning apps that promise a “collective Netflix experience online”.

You can also use other services like HBO Now or Hulu, as well as an internal video player with a movie, saved to your gadget’s memory. Even TikTok made it to the list — you can watch the short videos, sharing sarcastic commentaries in a live mode.

Another helpful trick is sharing the screen while working on a certain application. This way, you can be a tutor, help your buddy fix an issue with a glitching game, or demonstrate to your confused grandma how a certain option can be evoked and used.

To use SharePlay, you need to be amidst an active call first. Then tap the additional controls, and finally select the feature we’re talking about.

When sharing your screen, you’ll be given a 3-second countdown, after which your screen will be revealed for your vis-à-vis.  Three seconds isn’t much, however, so it’s recommended to prepare whatever materials you want to share: open a document, launch an app, or head to a website.

Even though FaceTime is available for other platforms, like Android, via a browser extension, SharePlay doesn’t work this way. You need to own one of the updated Apple gadgets to reap all the benefits.

Previously, FaceTime allowed sharing music via the app. And now you can enjoy a movie together with someone even if there are thousands of miles between you. What other FaceTime features do you enjoy? Tell us in the comments.
