In theory, two competing products should develop their own distinct characteristics in order to demonstrate that they are superior to their competitors. However, it is not uncommon for one corporation to come up with a concept, which is subsequently adopted by others with their own twist. And Android Auto and CarPlay are no different and we should all be grateful.

While Google and Apple clearly invest in their own distinct features, there are instances when the two are working on identical functionality that makes it appear as if they're stealing each other's ideas.

This time, it appears like Android is emulating CarPlay. If you're unfamiliar with CarPlay, it's an Apple software that allows you to use your phone safely while driving. Google has just begun work on a big Android Auto redesign codenamed Coolwalk, which is expected to offer a long-overdue overhaul to the app's UI. One of the standout features is a split-screen mode, which is clearly inspired by the CarPlay dashboard and lets users view data from different applications on the same screen.

To put it another way, Android Auto is set to imitate one of the finest CarPlay features ever. Unsurprisingly, this method has garnered a lot of criticism from users, but at the end of the day, everyone should just be pleased Google chose this path. The CarPlay dashboard is an excellent concept. Finally, getting numerous applications to operate on the same screen in a car isn't something that can be accomplished in a variety of ways.

After all, Google and Apple stealing each other's ideas isn't necessarily the end of the world. What are your thoughts on corporations imitating one another? And how excited are you about this new feature? Please voice your opinions in the comments section below.
